About Cali Commander

Cali Commander is a competitive way to play Magic: The Gathering's Commander format with two players instead of four. Decks follow normal Commander deck building: 100 cards, one copy of each card apart from basic lands, led by a commander. Each player starts at 30 life. The full rules are on the rules page.

Cali Commander is run by Cassius Marsh and Asher Boulton. Cassius, a former NFL player, is the face of the format. He owns Cash Cards Unlimited, the card store that powers this site. Asher founded Cali Commander and builds this site.

The players decide the ban list by vote, in the Collector's Horde Discord.

• Each ballot takes one response per person, and every card on it is its own Yes or No question.
• A card is banned or unbanned only with at least 55% Yes among the Yes and No votes. Abstentions count as neither.
• Changes land in a scheduled update every three months, unless a card clearly breaks the format.
• A watch list names cards the community is keeping an eye on. It is not a ban.

Every ballot's full results are public on the vote results page, and the current list is on the ban list page.

Game stores run Cali Commander events and report the results here, and those results feed the season leaderboard. Find a store on the stores page, or, if you run one, apply to host events.
